Vizag to host major TT tourney after 28 years

After a gap of 28 years, the city is hosting a National-level table tennis tournament. The National (South Zone) ranking tournament will be held at the Port indoor stadium from October 19 to 25.

This is also the fist major National ranking tournament after formation of AP. Participation in the tournament is necessary for players across the country to improve their ranking. Nearly 700 players from all States and Union Territories will be seen in action. Among them are Indian players who have participated in the Rio Olympics like Sharath Kamal, Saumyajit Ghosh, Manika Batra and Mouma Das.

The District Table Tennis Association is hosting the tournament in association with AP Table Tennis Association and Table Tennis Federation of India. Competitions will be held in singles, doubles and mixed doubles for men and women and singles and doubles for boys and girls in youth, junior, sub-junior and cadet categories, secretary of VDTTA D.V.S.Y. Sharma said. Meanwhile, on Wednesday Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who is also chief patron of the tournament, president of VDTTA and MLC M.V.S. Sarma, MP M. Srinivasa Rao, Vice-Chairman of VUDA T. Baburao Naidu, Senior Divisional Manager of LIC K. Muralidhar, DSDO June Gallyot released the logo of the tournament.
