Ugadi brings cheer to HSL township
Visakhapatnam: Having witnessed infrastructure within the township of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) deteriorating in the last few years, residents of the township finally had a reason to smile on Ugadi day. Along with renovation of seven residential staff quarters, a new family park was also thrown open to the residents by chairman and managing director LV Sarat Babu on Friday.
The seven quarters and family park were renovated at a cost of Rs 20 lakh by HSL authorities and several other houses are also expected to be renovated in a phased manner in the coming days.
Moreover, the Lalitha Kalamandir was reconstructed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh and to mark Ugadi, various cultural programmes were organised in the evening. A large number of residents gathered to witness the cultural programmes.
Meanwhile, people of the city welcomed the Durmukhi Nama Samvatsaram in a traditional style in the city. The astrologers and the priests predicted that this year would be in favour of the virtuous and hardworking people.
Pujas were conducted in all the major temples of the city and people prayed for a happy and prosperous New Year. The Sampath Vinayagar Temple witnessed more than 10,000 devotees praying for a prosperous and a smooth new year. The Ugadi Pachaddi was distributed at the Collectorate, GVMC and other government offices.
