Tuni-Kothavalasa new railway line on the cards

Visakhapatnam: The Union railway ministry has agreed to built a new railway line covering the three coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari in the next fiscal.

Confirming this to TOI, Anakapalli MP M Srinivasa Rao said the Union railway ministry agreed to lay a new railway line between Tuni in East Godavari to Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district via Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam district in the next fiscal. “Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu has informed me that funds will be sanctioned for the new railway track between Tuni and Kothavalasa,” Srinivasa Rao said.
The project was announced in the railway budget 2016-17 and a survey will soon be conducted for the new railway line following which the project cost will be determined. The survey is likely to begin in the next few months. The 112-km long railway line is likely to connect Agency areas like Narsipatnam, Chodavaram and Madugula in Visakhapatnam district. The anticipated cost of the survey is around Rs 16.8 lakh.
“The new railway line between Tuni and Kothavalasa will help people by reducing the journey time,” the MP explained. According to sources, the distance between Tuni and Kothavalasa by road is about 130 kms. The train line proposed is for 112 kms
