Visakhapatnam: The IT department will complete the construction of the Millennium Tower with a built-up area of 3 lakh sft by March 2017, said IT minister Palle Raghunath Reddy.
Addressing a media conference at Rushikonda IT Hills in the city on Saturday, Reddy said the Millennium Tower will provide the required space for IT companies to set up facilities in the city. He also said the IT department has earmarked 54,000 sft for tech firms in the city including a 28,000 sft facility at Vuda Complex and another 26,000 sft space on VIP Road.
Stating that over 4,000 jobs were created in Vizag during the last two years, he said the turnover from IT firms has increased from Rs 1,800 crore to Rs 2,400 crore during the same period. According to him, around 120 companies including small, medium and large companies are operating from the city.
“Out of the 63 memorandum of understanding signed by the IT department in the USA a couple of months earlier, 30 have already materialised and another 33 are in the pipeline with the state government making all efforts to ground them,” he said. He said Innovare Minds has been allocated land on Hill 3 for creating its own facility and the company would provide 3,000 jobs in the city. He said the state government will also be allotting land for 30 companies at Kapaluppada, where an IT layout is being developed, in the first phase. He also said Wipro and Tech Mahindra have been asked to expand their operations in the city.
Referring to the Signature Tower project, which was expected to provide 20 lakh sft of built-up space for IT companies, the minister said two rounds of discussions have been completed with the prospective developers and the bid process is underway.
