Visakhapatnam: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the stakeholders of the Smart City Mission to first make Vizag open defecation free by August 30 this year before proceeding with other projects.
The CM had initially instructed GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar to do away with open defecation by August 15. But now, the CM wants the city open defecation free by August 30. He suggested the GVMC to take all possible measures including awareness campaigns on the ill effects of open defecation, which can put a black spot on Vizag despite it having developed on all other aspects under the Smart City Mission. The CM has also instructed Pravin Kumar to work on the housing project for poor people.
The CM also interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference earlier in the day and said AP villages will soon be able to avail broadband connections with 15 mbps speed at just Rs 150 a month as part of the Digital India campaign. He also said the state government has already embarked on the fibre grid project at a cost of Rs 330 crore and the project will be completed by August.
The CM further said Vizag is the only city to install LED bulbs in all the streetlights with a centrally-controlled monitoring system.
