Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation, AP Air Travellers Association and Tours and Travels Association of Andhra will jointly conduct a first-of-its-kind International Airline Summit in the city on March 26.
Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati Raju will inaugurate the summit in which representatives of more than 15 airliners are likely to participate. Airports Authority of India executive director Tariq Butt is slated to attend it.
AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation president G Samba Siva Rao and AP Air Travellers Association chairman Y Siva Sagara Rao told media persons here on Thursday that all four airport directors from Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Tirupati will provide a power point presentation about their airports and feasibility to run services to various destinations not only in India but across the globe. They said about 1,000 tonnes of gold are imported from foreign countries to AP by MMTC and other agencies every year via Chennai and Hyderabad. Both Tamil Nadu and Telangana are earning a 2% import tax for the import of gold, which can be brought to Andhra Pradesh if direct flights are provided to the cities here, they said.
Air Travellers Association working president Cheruvu Rama Kotayya and senior member O Naresh Kumar said representatives from Silk Airlines, Srilankan Airlines, Mihin Lanka, Air Arabia, Air Asia, Malaysian Airlines and United Airlines will participate.
