The fortnight-long cleanliness campaign undertaken by the first and premier shipyard on the East Coast, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, has been turned into an opportunity to clear junk.
The Swachh Bharat Pakhawada programme from May 1, spearheaded by the company’s Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral (retd.) L.V. Sarat Babu, has seen all functional directors and officers and employees clear the yard as well as colony premises. On Tuesday, a tree plantation drive was taken up on the factory premises. Senior officers and employees led by Rear Admiral (retd) Sarat Babu, Director (Shipbuilding) Cmde AS Mitra planted saplings at places like dry dock and ship repairs, administration building area and HR Department area.
As part of the campaign, a painting competition was organised for the children of employees on the importance of cleanliness. It was conducted at the Hindustan Shipyard Junior College and High School on Saturday. The prizes would be given away to the winners at the valedictory of the fortnight-long campaign, General Manager (HR) K.V. Surya Rao said in a statement.
The officers and employees and their families participated in the tree plantation at the Family Park and along the main roads in the colony. Earlier, everyone participated in cleaning these areas.
