HawkEye vehicle to survey roads in district
Visakhapatnam: Australia-based HawkEye Professional Network Survey Vehicle (HPNSV) will survey all the roads in the district to assess their quality and help the roads and buildings (R&B) department to improve them.
The vehicle that has already completed surveying the roads in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts will start work in the district from Wednesday and cover 2,200 kilometres.
District collector N Yuvaraj formally flagged off the vehicle at the collectorate on Tuesday and said it will help in generating comprehensive data pertaining to road quality and functional road parameters.
When contacted, R&B executive engineer KV Ramana Reddy said the state government has brought two such vehicles to conduct the survey in all the 13 districts in a phased manner. One of the vehicles is at work in the Rayalaseema region while the other is at work in the coastal districts.
The HPNSV is fitted with advanced equipment to mine data related to the road it surveys. It is equipped with six cameras that can take photographs up to 20 metres away from the road in all corners, Reddy said, adding that vehicle is an alternative to manual assessments and is also equipped with GPS, front laser-mounted beam and sub-projection lasers.
