‘State mooted hotel-cum-convention centre’
The Andhra Pradesh Government had submitted a detailed project report in February 2018 on conversion of decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat into a museum and hotel-cum-convention centre and it was under the consideration of the Ministry of Defence, according to Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre.
The Minister gave the information on Monday replying to a question by V. Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on the status of DPR and when it will be brought to Visakhapatnam.
The State government is committed to turning Viraat into a mega tourism attraction. Along with Kursura Submarine and TU 142 Aircraft Museum it is expected to complete Naval tourism circuit.
During the recent CII Partnership summit, Tourism Minister Bhuma Akilapriya exuded confidence that the Andhra Pradesh government would accomplish the task going in for PPP mode, if necessary. The estimated cost, according to her, is ₹ 800 crore.
The Union government has released a total of ₹1767.09 crore to Andhra Pradesh under Swachh Bharat from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
The State has 5.94 lakh households- 8.37 % of total households- without access to toilets as on March 15, 2018, Union Minister of State of Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi said in a reply to query from Mr. Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha.
The State Government sought ₹4470.7 crore for the three years.
