VISAKHAPATNAM: Even though the AP government’s ambitious Signature Tower project is yet to take off, the state IT department has sanctioned Rs 80 crore for construction of the Millenium Tower at Rushikonda IT Hills. At the same time, the department has also sanctioned Rs 30 crore for development of four infrastructure layouts as IT hubs in the state. Moreover, the state government has planned to set up incubation towers in Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapur with a space of around 1 lakh sft for IT companies.
According to an IT department official, the Millenium Tower project at Hill 3 in Rushikonda will provide around 3 lakh sft to companies planning to set up offices in the Port City. “The Millenium Tower will be built on Plot No 16 and 17 of Hill 3 and it will be a government-constructed building for IT companies. This will be a permanent tower and is meant for IT companies focussing on Vizag as an IT destination,” the official said, adding that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has prepared the request for proposal from interested parties for construction of the building.
IT department sources said that in addition to the Millenium Tower, around Rs 30 crore has been sanctioned for IT layouts spread over 250 acres at Kapuluppada in the first phase, on 219 acres at Pekulud in Ananthapur district, on 500 acres Kappalabanda near Puttaparthi in Ananthapur district, which is under acquisition, and another IT layout near Tirupati.
“The areas in Anantapur district have been chosen as they are close to Bengaluru and can play a vital role in attracting companies from the neighbouring state,” opined another IT department official.
At the same time, the IT department has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for office space in the form of incubation towers at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapur with a built up area of around 1 lakh sft.
