Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Saturday visited Mugada in Badangi mandal which he has adopted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) and appealed to the people to play active role in development of the village.
Addressing the villagers, Mr. Raju said that a Central team recently visited Dwarapudi in Vizianagaram mandal, the other village he adopted, for SAGY award and it had become possible due to involvement of elected representatives, officials and people in its all-round development.
Saying that illiteracy was the reason for all problems, Mr. Raju recalled how children at Dwarapudi made their parents literate. He asked everyone to become literate and advised the people to stop open defecation, the main cause for diseases, conserve energy by replacing ordinary bulbs with LEDs, dig soak pits for improving groundwater table, stay away from vices, and check unnecessary expenditure.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched SAGY in October, 2014, with a target to develop 2,100 villages in five years, Mr. Raju adopted Dwarapudi, Mugada and Saripalli villages in his parliamentary constituency and decided to develop them as model ones by 2019.
Later, he laid the foundation stone for solar power system at an estimated cost of Rs. 1crore at Bobbili Municipal Office. Of the sum, he sanctioned Rs.10 lakh from the MPLADs.
Collector M.M. Nayak, nodal officer and DWMA Project Director Prashanti, and others were present.
