Anti-plastic campaign launched in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: In an attempt to curb the menace of plastic use in the city, NGOs and environment conscious citizens conduct an anti-plastic campaign — P4 — every Sunday to create awareness among the general public. The campaign involves various top officials and will continue for the next two years.

The campaign organisers work with the AP Pollution Control Board and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation officials to ensure that the plastic ban is implemented properly and the violators are strictly penalised. Vizag East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu as well as former head of the environmental sciences department, Andhra University, P Rajsekhar has been part of the campaign besides India Youth for Society (IYFS) members. IYFS president Palakonda Madhu said that their volunteers have been conducting awareness campaigns in the rhythu bazaars of MVP Colony, Narasimhanagar, CBI Colony, Kancharapalem, Marripalem and Gopalapatnam.

MLA Ramakrishna Babu on Sunday urged the people to purchase cloth bags and not use plastic ones. He said that plastic bags of any size and any thickness should be avoided.
