Kaushal – a skill development programme launched as part of CSR initiative of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has been able to provide jobs to over 100 unemployed SC youths. The scheme is extended in the surrounding villages as well as the mining areas. RINL gives stipend of Rs.1500 during the training. It also has an important linkage to placement after successful training.
With the active support of top management especially interest shown by Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan, project could able to provide livelihood to the poor people and bring them into the mainstream.
Training is imparted in garment construction technique for four months and industrial sewing machine operation (basic and advanced) for three months to 200 SC youth. The training is provided by Apparel Training and Design Centre, a professional body under the Ministry of Textiles.
“Kaushal aims to address the skill deficit with a focus on an eco-system approach,” an RINL official said.
The training classes are conducted right in the midst of the Rehabilitation colonies at two locations Vadlapudi and Gajuwaka facilitating access to the beneficiaries. Two batches trained at Gajuwaka from November 15 to March 16 and three batches at Vadlapudi from January 16 to May 16. Till now 113 beneficiaries were provided with job offers from Volta Fashions.
The official said RINL also imparted skills in various trades like tailoring, fabric painting, light motor vehicle driving and beauty therapy to unemployed youth of the Rehabilitation Colonies. During 2015-16, 320 beneficiaries were trained.
